Most brides walk in with a phone full of inspiration photos, an opinion from every bridesmaid, and no real idea what will actually suit them. Left too long, that uncertainty turns into a rushed decision two months out, or a gown that photographs beautifully but feels wrong the moment she has to dance in it.

At The Bridehouse Bulimba, we slow that down. You try different styles, get honest advice, and work out what feels right for you in a calm boutique setting, with the same team who can also fit and finish the dress once you've chosen it.

Why we can change almost anything about your dress

Every gown in our collection is our own original design, and we own every pattern. That means a neckline, waistline, sleeve or fabric change isn't a request sent overseas to a manufacturer who's never met you — it's a conversation with the same studio that drew the pattern in the first place, for a small fee.

It's also why our styling and our alterations happen under the one roof. The person who helped you choose your silhouette is working from the same pattern the alterations team uses to get it to fit exactly. Anna, who leads our alterations, has spent more than 30 years doing precisely this kind of work — she's seen almost every fit problem a gown can throw up, and she's usually already found the fix before you've finished explaining it.

A Bulimba studio with more than three decades of bridal history

The Bridehouse Bulimba carries forward a bridal tradition that began with Anne Bertossi, one of Australian bridal's respected names, more than thirty years ago. Gabrielle Spencer trained in fashion design, found her place in the bridal world, and was later mentored directly by Anne before taking over the ownership and creative direction of the studio.

The name has changed over the years — from Bertossi Brides to Paddington Weddings to The Bridehouse Bulimba — but the same hands-on, one-roof approach to design and alterations hasn't.

Our studio is at 4/37 Oxford St, Bulimba QLD 4171, and we welcome brides travelling in from right across Brisbane and South East Queensland.

How it works

Pricing and what's included

Our made-to-order gowns and couture commissions are priced individually, and the price of your gown includes ordering it to your closest sample size. Couture commissions with Gabrielle Spencer start from $6,000 AUD; final price depends on design and materials. A 50% deposit secures your order, with the balance invoiced before your gown arrives — payment plans are available. Alterations are quoted separately at your fitting, once we can see exactly what your gown needs. If your wedding is closer than our usual 10-month lead time, a rush order may be possible for a $250 fee, depending on the season.

Try before you commit

Every bridal consultation is complimentary and comes with no obligation to book anything on the day. Once you've chosen your gown, you have a 7-day cooling-off period to be certain. We can't offer returns or exchanges on a made-to-order gown once it's in production, since it's cut specifically for you — which is exactly why we build in the cooling-off period beforehand.
